JSEF partners with Donors Choose in funding teachers classroom needs. Donors Choose is a national organization that provides an easy way for teachers to post their specific needs and for donors to pick and choose where they want to donate. Any amount of donation is accepted.
Here’s how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.
Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, Donors Choose delivers the materials to the school.
You’ll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $50, you’ll also receive handwritten thank you letters from the students.
JSEF monitors the Donors Choose site carefully and we’ve found that when the community supports specific teacher needs and a few donations show up, larger foundations
often pick up the balance. JSEF itself donates to Donors Choose regularly and it’s a great example of how the the online community can come together and make a difference.
We encourage all of you to visit their site often (just click their logo below and it will open in a new window or tab) and donate whatever you can toward specific needs posted by our John Swett Unified School District teachers. If nothing is posted for our district at the moment you can sign up for e-mail when a new project is added.
