About Us
John Swett Education Foundation was founded out of a need to help the schools and it's students in the 4 schools within the John Swett Unified School district. The impetus was the failure of a June 2006 parcel tax which would have gone to the schools. Since then we have formed a board of directors of very talented people, have become a non profit, taken classes on running an education foundation and have at present plans for:
• Get Lucky Prom: Our 2nd annual Get Lucky Prom in November of '08 was double the success the first one was. Grand prize to Vegas was won by local Jennifer Mihalovich and second prize of a spa week end in Calistoga was won by local Barbara Remington. Profits collected from the event including the ever awesome Silent Auction are turned back to special needs of our School District.
The 2009 Get Lucky Prom will be held on Saturday November 21, 2009 at the Crockett Community Center. Back by popular demand will be our wonderful DJ, Mr. Capule from Rodeo Middle School. A true professional, you'll not only enjoy his selections, he'll teach you some new steps. What a hoot!
This year we're featuring a nautical theme and serving both Mexican and Italian dinner, of course this year's signature drink, wine and beer and the grand prize we're working on is a cruise to Mexico. You won't want to miss the Silent Auction as well as loads of services and goods will be there for pennies on the dollar. A great time to shop for Christmas gifts. Looking to volunteer for this function? We need ticket takers, Silent Auction monitors, decorators, kitchen help and a clean up crew. There will be perks involved. For more information, call Beverly Hill at 510-541-5778 OR send her an email to: beverlyhill12@comcast.net. Put volunteer in the subject line please.
• Teachers' Wish List: JSEF further assists students by having produced and distributed a Teachers' Wish List (click here to view and download a copy). Each teacher can apply for a grant for projects our board approves. The projects we approve are primarily those that increase and enhance academics among students. In the summer of 08 we gave $500 toward a group of students visiting Latin America on an educational trip. If you know of teachers with needs for our students that our state or federal budget will not cover, contact JSEF. Call Beverly Hill at 510-541-5778 or email us at: johnswett.ef@hotmail.com OR beverlyhill12@comcast.net.
What John Swett Education Foundation needs the most is funding to help with the above projects for without it, we can little or nothing for our students. Look at it this way, if you give up just one night on the town or a fancy dinner out for our kids, you can write a check to JSEF for $40 or $50 and believe me, our kids need all the help they can get.
If you are able to attend our monthly meetings, they are held the 3rd Monday of each month (except December) at 364 Edwards, corner of Edwards and Vallejo in Crockett. Time: 6pm potluck, 6:30 pm general meeting. Our second greatest need is more people willing to give of their time. Thank you for your attention and I thank you in advance for your generosity of money and/or time devoted to our students, our future.
